Museum of Science & Industry

Welcome to the Museum of Science and Industry (MSI), where you can learn about and be amazed by the wonders of science and technology. MSI is the biggest science center in the southeastern United States. It is in the beautiful city of Tampa, Florida, and is a great place for people of all ages who are interested in science.  History of the Museum: The Museum of Science & Industry first opened its doors in 1982. Since then, it has been inspiring and entertaining tourists with educational exhibits and hands-on activities that show the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Walter Lowell "Wally" Phillips Jr., a businessman and donor with a big vision, came up with the idea for MSI. He wanted to make a place where learning was fun, easy, and exciting.

Exhibits and Galleries: MSI has a wide range of exhibits and galleries that cover a lot of different science fields. From diving into the depths of the ocean in the Ocean Commotion exhibit to studying the universe in the Saunders Planetarium, every tourist will find something that piques their interest.  The BioWorks Butterfly Garden is a fascinating place where you can see the life cycle of butterflies up close, and the IdeaZone is full of hands-on activities and tasks that help people be creative and think outside the box.  Don't miss the Mission: Moonbase show, where you can learn about what it's like to live on the Moon and what it takes to go there. At the Amazing You display, you can also take a trip through the human body and learn about all its amazing parts.

Educational Programs: MSI is very proud of how much it cares about education, and it has many programs for students, families, and teachers. Live science shows bring scientific ideas to life in a fun and interesting way at the Science Works Theater. The Summer Science Camps give young scientists an intensive experience that helps them become more interested in STEM topics.  MSI offers training and tools for teachers to help them improve their lessons and bring science to life for their students. The museum also lets school groups come for field trips, and they can get experiences that fit with what they are learning in the classroom.  IMAX Dome Theatre: No trip to MSI is complete without going to the IMAX Dome Theatre, which is a state-of-the-art building that takes you on a movie journey like no other. The IMAX Dome Theatre takes you to faraway places and makes you feel like you're part of the action with its huge, curved screen and realistic sound system.

Community outreach: MSI works closely with local schools, groups, and families to promote STEM education and inspire the next generation of creators. The museum often works with local companies, colleges, and other organizations to put on events and do projects together.  The Museum of Science & Industry in Tampa, Florida, is much more than a traditional museum. It is a dynamic, engaging place that encourages a love of learning and discovery. MSI has something for everyone, whether you're a science fan, a family looking for a fun day out, or a teacher trying to get your kids interested in science.

So, go to MSI and start an amazing trip through the wonders of science, where learning is an adventure and your mind has no limits. The Museum of Science & Industry is a place where fun and learning come together. It has interesting exhibits and teaching events that make you want to learn more.
